COSMIX SCHOOL OF MAKEUP ARTISTRY

The Beauty of Sharing: A Reflection from Cosmix Makeup School
There are moments in my career when I am reminded that the beauty industry is so much bigger than the products we create or the makeup we apply. It is really about people, connection, experience, and the responsibility we have to share what we have learned with the next generation of artists.
Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to spend time with the students at Cosmix Makeup School, and I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to Marietta, their instructor, for inviting me into her classroom and for the support and encouragement she gave me throughout the experience. Thank you, Marietta, for allowing me to share my story, my products, and the lessons I’ve gathered throughout my career with your students. It was an honor to be welcomed into your space.
To the students, I want you to know something very important: you are special, you are valued, and you are loved.
You are entering an industry filled with possibility, but your journey will be uniquely yours. There is no single formula for becoming the artist you are meant to be. Your responsibility is to pay attention, to learn, to remain curious, and to discover what makes you feel most alive when you are creating.
During our conversation, I asked you to think about intention. What is it that you want to attract into your life? What kind of makeup artist do you want to become? What kind of work do you want to do? What kind of people do you want to serve? What kind of energy do you want to bring into the room when you work with a client?
But there is one question I especially want you to carry with you:
What Is My Passion?
That question can become a compass.
Your passion may change as you grow. You may discover things about yourself that you couldn’t have imagined when you first picked up a brush. You may begin thinking you want to do one kind of makeup and eventually find yourself completely captivated by another.
That’s okay.
The important thing is to keep asking yourself what truly moves you.
Because when you understand your passion, you begin to understand what you want to manifest. Your intention becomes clearer. Your choices become more purposeful. And your artistry begins to develop a voice of its own.
Beauty Is About More Than Makeup
One of the things I hope you remember from our conversation is that our responsibility as makeup artists extends far beyond making someone look beautiful.
We have the privilege of creating an experience.
A client can sit in our chair feeling uncertain, nervous, excited, vulnerable, celebratory, or completely transformed by whatever is happening in their life at that moment. We meet people at very personal moments, and the way we serve them matters.
We are working with beauty, but we are also working with emotion.
That is why etiquette matters. Respect matters. Listening matters. Your energy matters. The way you communicate matters.
Your technical skills will continue to develop throughout your career, but never underestimate the importance of how you make someone feel.
Learn Everything You Can
To the students at Cosmix, I encourage you to pay attention to everything.
Listen to your instructors. Watch the artists around you. Study the products. Learn the techniques. Learn the history. Learn the business. Learn how to communicate with clients. Learn how to conduct yourself professionally.
And then take all of that information and begin developing your own point of view.
The beauty industry is built on decades of accumulated knowledge. Every generation of artists inherits something from the generation before them, whether it’s a technique, a philosophy, an understanding of products, an approach to clients, or simply a lesson learned through experience.
That is one of the things I love most about our industry.
We don’t have to start from zero.
We can learn from those who came before us and then take that knowledge somewhere new.
The Responsibility of Experience
I’ve spent decades in this industry, and I have been fortunate enough to learn from incredible people and experiences along the way. Whatever insight I have accumulated—about artistry, products, business, etiquette, relationships, creativity, and the realities of working in this industry—has value only if I am willing to share it.
That is why opportunities like this mean so much to me.
I don’t believe knowledge is something we should hold onto. I believe it should circulate.
An artist shares something with another artist. That artist takes it, transforms it, develops it and eventually shares something of their own.
That’s how an industry grows.
We Grow Together
Most of all, I want to thank the students for being open to receiving what I came to share.
Because without you, my words, my actions and my experience mean very little.
Teaching is not a one-way exchange. When I stand in front of a room of young artists, I may arrive with decades of experience, but I also leave having learned something from the people sitting in front of me.
That is the beauty of co-creation.
We inspire one another. We challenge one another. We pass knowledge forward. We create opportunities for one another to grow.
And that spirit of unity is at the very heart of who I am and who Cozzette Beauty is.
I believe deeply in our industry and in the responsibility we have to support one another. There is room for experience and new ideas. There is room for established artists and emerging artists. There is room for different perspectives, different aesthetics and different paths.
What matters is that we continue to show up for one another with generosity, curiosity, professionalism and respect.
To the Cosmix Students
As you continue your journey, remember that you belong here.
You are already becoming the artist you are meant to be.
Keep learning. Keep practicing. Keep asking questions. Set your intentions. Pay attention to what you are attracting into your life and career. And when you feel uncertain about which direction to take, come back to the question I asked you:
What is my passion?
Let that question lead you toward the work that excites you, the people you want to serve and the kind of artist you want to become.
It was an honor to share my story with you, and I am infinitely grateful that we had the opportunity to co-create this experience together.
Thank you, Marietta, for opening the door.
And thank you to every student who listened, participated, questioned, shared and received.
We are not separate from the industry we are building. We are the industry.
And when we share what we know, respect where we’ve come from, remain open to what is next, and help one another rise, we all grow together.
With love and gratitude,
Roque Cozzette
